The Bachelor’s degree programme in Sustainable Building Engineering at Poznan University of Technology is a comprehensive engineering programme that combines modern engineering solutions with environmentally responsible building design, energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure. The programme is offered by the Faculty of Civil and Transport Engineering. It is a full-time first-cycle programme taught in English and lasts 7 semesters. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree.
The Sustainable Building Engineering programme is designed for students who want to gain knowledge and skills in the design, construction and operation of low-energy buildings. The curriculum covers building engineering, environmental engineering, architecture, energy efficiency, water supply, sewage systems, heating, gas, refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Students learn not only how buildings are constructed, but also how their environmental impact can be reduced and how they can be operated efficiently.
During their studies, students learn how to use advanced engineering tools to develop sustainable building solutions. The programme includes computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, building information modelling, life cycle assessment, life cycle cost analysis and environmental assessment. Students also explore modern building processes through virtual reality-supported modelling methods.
The study process combines strong theoretical foundations with practical training. Students use mathematics, physics and computing to solve engineering problems and learn how to evaluate technical and environmental requirements at different stages of building design, construction and operation. The programme provides a strong foundation in sustainable urban development, energy savings, building safety and environmentally friendly engineering practices.
This programme is suitable for candidates interested in mathematics, physics, computing, construction technologies, environmental engineering and architecture. Students are expected to have a good command of English, an interest in science and technology, openness to innovative building solutions and curiosity about sustainable engineering practices.
Internships are an important part of the study experience. Students complete a 2-week surveying internship after the first year, a 2-week geotechnical internship after the second year and a 4-week pre-diploma internship in external companies after the third year. These internships help students apply their knowledge in practice and gain a better understanding of the construction industry.
Graduates of the Sustainable Building Engineering programme at Poznan University of Technology may work in construction companies, design offices, research and development centres, and institutions responsible for the development and maintenance of construction and transport infrastructure. Graduates may also have the opportunity to apply for construction licences and professional authorizations.
