The field of study in Painting offers both full-time first-cycle studies (BA, 3 years) and full-time second-cycle studies (MA, 2 years). The curriculum is designed to expose students to various ideological and methodological approaches to the field of study and encourages individual creative activity. The program emphasizes solid workshop practice and theoretical reflection in the context of contemporary culture and tradition. The goal is to provide students with unique artistic competence in painting and prepare them for independent creative work using classical and modern painting technologies.
The program combines professionalism with knowledge of social and market conditions of artistic work. All artistic and theoretical courses are taught based on original curricula. The teaching staff of the Faculty of Painting and Drawing consists of active artists, cultural animators, art critics, and theorists. The faculty collaborates with many universities, research, and exhibition institutions in Poland and abroad, and its students and graduates have participated in prestigious exhibitions and competitions, winning numerous awards and distinctions.
In addition, the Faculty of Painting and Drawing is planning to open three new laboratories to expand its curriculum. The Laboratory of Mapping and Street Art will familiarize students with the possibilities offered by new technologies. The Laboratory of Art Book will provide an extension to the curriculum of Painting Techniques Studio, Textile and Fiber Studio, and newly opened Comics Studio, with the aim of deepening knowledge about paper conservation technology. The Comics Studio will operate based on an exchange of comics artists, with classes open to students of UAP and secondary schools students to familiarize them with the Faculty's offerings.
BA students learn about art history, with a particular focus on painting and contemporary culture. They acquire basic painting skills, develop artistic awareness and social competences, and prepare for independent creative work using classical and modern painting techniques. They also gain research skills, learning to formulate and analyze research problems, select proper research methods and tools, and develop and present the results of their research. Graduates of BA studies can work as artists with well-developed painting and drawing competences or as animators of culture in institutions managing cultural resources. They can also enroll in MA studies at their home university or other art and non-artistic universities in Poland and abroad. Graduates also have general knowledge of financial, marketing, and legal aspects of the artist profession.
MA students deepen their knowledge of the history and theory of culture and contemporary art while developing their skills, artistic awareness, social competences, and creative activity. The program is designed to be a dialogue based on cooperation between the main studio, MA artistic studio, and supplementary studios. Theoretical support helps develop research workshops and is based on MA seminars and proseminars, consolidating all years of knowledge while preparing students for their diploma. Graduates of MA studies can work as independent artists or in fields related to visual culture, such as art and design, thanks to the University's open structure that allows for interdisciplinary knowledge acquisition
