The Bachelor’s degree programme in Quantum Technologies at Poznan University of Technology is an interdisciplinary programme that combines quantum physics, classical and quantum computing, artificial intelligence, photonics, electronics and materials engineering. The programme is offered by the Faculty of Materials Engineering and Technical Physics. It is a full-time first-cycle programme taught in English and lasts 7 semesters. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree.
The Quantum Technologies programme is designed to prepare students for the design, manufacture, characterization and implementation of quantum technology components and systems. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in quantum physics, quantum computing, computer simulations, data analysis, photonics, electronics and materials engineering. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to understand and develop advanced technologies of the future.
One of the key strengths of the programme is its strong connection with materials engineering. Students learn about functional materials, nanostructures and thin-film structures, which form the basis of modern qubit platforms, quantum sensors and quantum communication systems. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to build a broad engineering profile and understand how quantum technologies can be developed from theory to practical application.
During their studies, students gain unique skills such as programming quantum computers, designing quantum sensors, integrating quantum communication systems, working with ultra-precise measurement systems, using advanced computer simulations and analysing scientific and technical data. The programme prepares students not only for scientific research but also for practical work in innovative industries and technology-focused organizations.
This programme is suitable for candidates who are interested in science, quantum phenomena, engineering and modern technologies. Students are expected to have analytical thinking skills, programming aptitude, logical and abstract thinking abilities, precision and openness to interdisciplinary learning. A willingness to work in an international environment is also an important advantage for students who choose this field.
Internships are an important part of the study experience. Students complete a 4-week vocational internship after the sixth semester. These internships can take place in external institutions, research centres or companies, giving students the opportunity to learn about different applications of quantum technologies and to understand the role of an engineer in the research and development sector.
Graduates of the Quantum Technologies programme at Poznan University of Technology are prepared to work in Poland and abroad in the research and development sector, research centres and innovative industries. They may find career opportunities in process optimization, medicine, medical and technical diagnostics, sensorics, quantum hardware, quantum software, photonics, data analysis and advanced materials technologies.
Poznan is one of Poland’s important academic and technological cities. With its strong university environment, research opportunities, international student life and central location in Europe, it offers an excellent setting for students interested in advanced science and technology. Studying Quantum Technologies at Poznan University of Technology gives students the opportunity to gain future-oriented knowledge and prepare for a career in one of the most innovative fields of modern engineering and science.
