Biomedical Engineering

The Master’s degree programme in Biomedical Engineering at Poznan University of Technology is an advanced second-cycle programme designed for students who want to specialize in healthcare technologies, rehabilitation engineering, medical device design, implant technologies and prosthetics. The programme is offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It is a full-time programme taught in English and lasts 3 semesters. Graduates receive a Master of Science degree.

The Biomedical Engineering master’s programme develops students’ analytical thinking skills and prepares them to create and implement innovative technical solutions used in rehabilitation and medicine. The programme combines engineering knowledge with health sciences, helping students gain advanced understanding of the human body, human movement, medical devices and modern healthcare technologies.

Depending on the chosen specialization, students can gain knowledge in areas such as prosthetics, medical and rehabilitation robots, rehabilitation device design, human mobility support systems, biomechanical modelling of human movement, orthopaedic and rehabilitation engineering, modern biomaterial technologies, mechanotherapy, balneotherapy and pathobiomechanics. This makes the programme strongly interdisciplinary and relevant for both engineering and medical applications.

One of the key aims of the programme is to prepare students to approach real healthcare technology problems from an engineering perspective. Students develop competences in the design of medical devices, development of rehabilitation equipment, manufacturing of implants and prostheses, biomechanical analysis and implementation of innovative technologies in healthcare. The study process focuses on research, design, application and technical problem solving.

This programme is suitable for candidates with a background in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, mechatronics, medical technologies or related technical fields. Students are expected to have analytical thinking skills, an interest in healthcare technologies, the ability to combine technical and biological knowledge, openness to innovative medical solutions and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Internship and practical training opportunities are also part of the study experience. Students may complete internships and traineeships abroad through Erasmus+, EUNICE and IAESTE programmes. These opportunities help students gain international experience, explore different healthcare technology environments and develop professional contacts.
