Description
Today’s Strzemiński Academy of Art Łódź (ASP Łódź) was brought into being in 1945 as a crowning of long, pre-war endeavours of excellent Polish avantgarde artists led by Władysław Strzemiński. The founders of the School embedded strong references to the traditions of Bauhaus in its curriculum. ASP Łódź offers the whole range of art & design courses, including nationwide unique programmes in Fashion Design, Jewellery Design or Theatre, Film and TV Techniques, accompanied by rich traditions in the areas of textile art, graphic design and painting. 17 departments, 110 studios, 179 members of teaching staff (including 32 full professors) serve 1117 students on both B.A. and M.A. levels. Last year, one of Poland’s best equipped academic computer studios with 64 state-ofthe-art working stations was opened. The currently ongoing, ambitious development scheme will allow to move the Library to the new wing of the Academy, along with the newly created institutions of supra-academic importance: Fashion Promotion Centre and Centre for Arts and Science – everything until 2013.
